Load the Cannon!!!

I am currently working on getting the gun to fire bullets. It seems simple, but that means it's probably really not. If we can't get this to work pretty soon, I may just redo the game as a rail-shooter. Hopefully it won't come to that, but you never know.

Collision Detection and Pancakes

After all of this time, I finally got my character to stop running through walls. The issue wasn't the coding itself, but where I put it. I don't know exactly what it's called, but I put the coding within the character, I think. Anyway, this calls for a celebration! When I get home, I'm making chocolate chip pancakes!

Internet at the Speed of Snail!

After waiting 20 minutes for the post creation page to load, I finally have a chance to blog. Thanks school's "fast" internet! In other news, I have installed the Flash Professional trial at home. No longer will I be plagued with bad internet, web restrictions, and other annoyances! Next time I blog, it shall be from home.

Revisions

So yeah, I got inspired by a sample file on the wiki. I was looking up how to make walls and obstacles on the game and found tope-down view sample file, and then it hit me that we should do that! We'll have to go back a little bit, but I have a feeling it will be worth it...

Busy Being Sick

I was out Friday, I had an appointment, my body wanted me to stay home and have a stomach virus, who am I to disagree with my body? Anyway, I played WoW for most of the weekend, taking bathroom breaks as necessary. I hope to learn what programming language WoW uses so I can embed images into messages I send to people. I would embed an image in this post, but my images are still being blocked.

YOU'RE WINNER!

I am finally done with the game facts! It would be a great achievement if it wasn't for the fact the only reason the game facts didn't work was I forgot to add instance names to the buttons. Still, I'M WINNER!!!!

Also, EVERY image on my blog is blocked on my computer, but not my teacher's. Seriously, what's up with that?

Mass Effect 3 and Woodrow's Technical Difficulties

This week has been good at home. Got Mass Effect 3, very fun, very action packed. Love the multiplayer, I play as a Krogan Soldier. They have lots of health and shields but are very slow and aren't capable of doing combat rolls.

As for the second part mentioned, Woodrow has been experiencing technical difficulties. And by that I mean the Internet has been on and off all week. No Internet Tuesday or Wednesday, very annoying, couldn't get ANYTHING done in 2 classes. Other than that I made progress with the Game Facts flash. I plan on adding buttons so the viewers can cycle through the facts at their leisure.

Day 9

Here is my mini-game, enjoy!

It took me FOREVER to embed this properly. Seriously, every time I embedded this thing the only thing that displayed was a blank, white box. I am so glad I got this. Also, this will probably be the last day I use the Day # format for naming my posts, I will be creative!!!

Day 8

Me and my partners thought of an idea for our game. The topic will be Technology, specifically Cyber Security. It will be an action game and a side-scrolling platfomrer/shooter. It will be set in a grid or circuit board styled world where you battle virii, malware, spyware, and rogueware as a virus protection program (of no specific brand, as to prevent copyrighting and product placement). The player character will be portrayed in a humanoid form, and the various enemies will be represented in ways similar to virii, such as worms as worms, horses wearing ancient Greek helmets as trojan horses, and a guy in a trench-coat, fedora, and shades to represent spyware. Each level will add a new virus enemy, the beginning of the level will display both their in-game abilities as well as what they do in real life.

Day 7

Played Dwarf Fortress recently. You literally cannot win this game, no matter how hard you try, you will fail eventually. It may be a few minutes, it may be a few hours, but eventually, YOU WILL LOSE. But it is so fun and challenging, I can't stop playing. By the way, go onto the wiki, http://df.magmawiki.com/, and search "fun". Anyway, it is essentially a stratgey game where you control your own little community of dwarves. You have to account for a wide variety of things to ensure your society survives, such as food, shelter, medication, happiness, and defending your fort from a dragon attack. It is done in TUI or Text User Interface where basically everything is represented by a different text symbol, rather than an actual image (for example dragons are represented by a big green D). Dwarf fortress gives me an idea for our own strategy, sort of like a construcion & management game where the player runs a town, store, prison, amusement park, etc. They will have to manage resources and the happiness of the population of said facilities, though we certainly won't be using TUI.

Day 6

So, yeah my favorite game is World of Warcraft, one of the largest MMORPGs in the world. I'm not joking when I say enough people play to populate a small country. It had, at one point, almost 20 million regular players. Now it's only about 10 million, still one of the most played games in the world though. I like to play as a caster, a.k.a. anyone who casts spells, whether it's a mage setting enemies on fire, freezing people solid, and striking with pure magical energy or a warlock, casting shadow magic to slowly drain the life of his foes, conjuring apocolyptic firestorms, and commanding demons to do their bidding. There's also priests who heal allies, but that's boring to me.

Day 5

Hoping to make a fantasy-themed game with my partner, Powercat, preferably with a wizard in it. Perhaps a platformer, or even an RPG, or perhaps a shooting-gallery styled math game involving a wizard blasting answers with fire, ice, and lightning. Just an idea though...

Day 4

Looking forward to learning about Flash. The video we watched, the Single Story, was inspiring, and it reminded me of why I love the arts; we get to see the inner thoughts of individuals from various walks of life. Through art people can express their thoughts, their beliefs, and their cultures to others, whether it be through story, song, film, drawing, or video games.

Day 1

My first day on this blog. I'm taking Digital  Imaging II, a.k.a. Game Design at my school. Working with Globaloria. I hope to make either an RPG or an action platformer.
